Bettor Safe Campaign Launches Ads in Pennsylvania Ahead of March Madness

Date

TV, radio and digital ads will educate consumers about the risks of illegal betting sites and improve their understanding of legal online betting

March 10, 2021 (Las Vegas, NV)Bettor Safe Pennsylvania, the campaign launched by Conscious Gaming last week to educate Pennsylvanians about online betting, will today roll out advertising across radio, television and digital platforms in the commonwealth. The four-week ad push aims to inform consumers about the risks of illegal online betting and the benefits of Pennsylvania’s legal sites should they want to place a wager during the upcoming NCAA basketball tournament or otherwise.

A recent survey conducted by Conscious Gaming on behalf of the Bettor Safe campaign found that about 75% Pennsylvania adults who have bet online say they will or will consider placing an online sports bet during the NCAA basketball tournament. This comes as the same survey revealed that 75% of Pennsylvania residents could not or are not sure if they could differentiate a legal betting site from an illegal website.

“The data clearly shows there is a disconnect between interest among Pennsylvanians in online betting and awareness of the illegal market,” said Conscious Gaming VP of Corporate Social Responsibility & Communications, Seth Palansky. “It’s not enough to simply tell consumers that illegal is bad and legal is good. Through advertisements across Pennsylvania, Bettor Safe will educate and empower consumers to know where online betting is legal and distinguish between regulated and unregulated sites. As sports take center-stage this month, consumers need these resources to be bettor safe – than sorry – if betting online.”

Bettor Safe is a national campaign that launched with state-specific initiatives in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Pennsylvania’s first online casinos and sportsbooks went live in 2019. Today, the commonwealth offers legal online sports betting, poker and casino-style games including slots.

Despite efforts of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and legal operators in the commonwealth to educate adults about the legal market and put in place the appropriate oversight and regulations to protect consumers and guarantee fair odds, confusion remains. Bettor Safe will augment their efforts by providing easy-to-find, consumer-facing resources about legal online betting, with the Bettor Safe Pennsylvania website serving as an educational hub for information specific to the commonwealth. The campaign provides individuals with the tools to understand where online betting is regulated, how to  recognize unregulated sites and seek out legal alternatives if they want to place a wager.

“Educating Pennsylvanians about the security and safety advantages of legal online betting is critical,” said Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Executive Director Kevin O’Toole. “Approved operators in Pennsylvania have been vetted and they meet high regulatory standards which permits consumers to wager on legal sites with the confidence that their funds and identity are secure and that regulated websites will be responsible and accountable. The Bettor Safe campaign is an important resource to empower consumers to identify and use these regulated sites in Pennsylvania.”
